10 Ways to Have a Gilmore Girls Fall
At Fête, we believe that there are a few universal siren calls of an approaching autumn season.
There are, of course, the more obvious signs: the days begin to shorten, the air grows cooler, the leaves turn from green to golden to yellow. This is often preceded by the release of Starbucks’ fall menu, and the inundation of pumpkin-themed decor at craft and home goods stores. These are all valid indicators that the seasons are about to change once again.
But we believe in a far more reliable, telltale sign that fall is near - though it is a tad more abstract. One morning you will wake up, and you will just know. It’s a subtle shift, hardly perceptible to the oblivious. You will carry out your day as usual, but you will have “Where You Lead” by Carole King stuck in your head. All day. That is when you know that it is officially Autumn, AKA Gilmore Girls Season.
Girlmore Girls is the ultimate comfort show for many, and its setting of Stars Hollow particularly shines in the episodes set in the “‘ber” months. One can simply be comforted by the mere sight of orange-tinted leaves and elaborate pumpkin displays in the background of Lorelai and Rory’s morning strolls to Luke’s Diner. Aren’t we all chasing after that indescribable, apple pie-scented high we get from watching Cinnamon’s Wake for the zillionth time?
That’s why we’ve compiled a list of fun, accessible, and affordable activities that you can easily partake in to evoke all the cozy vibes you get from rewatching your fave episodes of Gilmore Girls. Let’s get into it!

Set the mood with a good playlist.
We don’t know about you, but nothing gets us in the fall spirit quite like a good themed playlist! Check out our favourite fall tunes inspired by Gilmore Girls here. We think that Lane would approve of this one! 😉
Did you know? All of our Fête-in-a-Box rentals come with a themed playlist to match the vibe of your party!

2. Go for a walk to appreciate the fall foliage.
Some of the most memorable moments in Gilmore Girls happen on the sidewalks of Stars Hollow. Bring along your bestie, your mom, or a sibling on your walk for a good ol’ yap sesh!

3. Channel your inner Emily Gilmore and host a dinner party.
…But perhaps with a slightly more relaxed vibe (IYKYK). 😉 Despite all the drama that often unfolds at the Gilmore’s weekly Friday night dinners, we respect Emily’s commitment to hosting dinner guests on a regular basis. As professional event planners, we know it’s no small task! However, it’s always worth it to gather your favourite people over a good meal on a cozy fall evening.
Pssst… If you’re hosting a dinner party, check out our event rentals! Fête-in-a-Box is the perfect option for getting all of your party décor, serving ware, and lighting in one easy rental.

4. Check out your town’s local events calendar.
The Stars Hollow community is tight-knit, and Lorelai and Rory are always in attendace at local events. Whether it’s a charity dance-a-thon, a funeral for a neighbour’s cat, or a battle reenactment, our girls always show up to support their fellow community members.

5. Stop by your local café for a steaming cup of coffee.
We’re officially in “hot coffee” season again! Stop by your favourite coffee shop and try something out of your comfort zone. Bonus points if you have incredible chemistry with your local barista, but I guess we can’t all be as lucky as Luke and Lorelai. 😉

6. Have a movie night.
There are few things that Lorelai and Rory love more than a cozy movie night. Don’t forget to pick up your favourite takeout and some sweet treats - no movie night is complete without them!
Not sure what to watch? Check out our curated list of movie and TV show recommendations, or maybe one of the many movies referenced in Gilmore Girls.
Pro Tip: Step up your movie night game and make your home feel like the “Black & White & Read Bookstore” by renting a projector and screen. Contact our team for more info!

7. Go antiquing.
Rainy Sunday? No problem! While you may not have a Kim’s Antiques around the corner, we bet that you have a hidden gem of an antique shop in your area. Grab a coffee, your pals, and let the treasure hunting commence!

8. Cozy up with a good book in the park.
This is your chance to find your very own “Study Tree,” just like Rory. The fall season is one of the best times of year to take a book to the park. Not sure what to read? Stop at your local library on the way and pick up something from Rory’s iconic reading list.

9. Hunt down the perfect cable knit sweater.
Rory and Lorelai have countless outfits that are all over our Fall Outfit Inspo Pinterest board, but the oversized cream cable knit sweater that Rory sports in the series’ pilot is an all-time favourite for us. Instead of heading to the local mall, stop by your local vintage store or charity shop to search for your perfect autumn sweater. Better yet, call up your relatives to see if they have any cool vintage pieces hiding in their attic!

10. Engage in a friendly debate at your next Girl’s Night.
Now that the weather is cooling down, it’s the perfect opportunity to host a Girls’ Night In with your besties. Sure, you can just cozy up and rewatch your favourite episodes of Gilmore Girls. But that’s easy mode - we suggest you up the ante by channeling your inner Paris Geller and hosting a debate! Our proposed topic: Are you Team Dean, Team Jess, or Team Logan? Present your argument with accompanying scenes/episodes to illustrate your key points. Other debate topics could include: Was Christopher really all that bad? How would you rewrite Lane Kim’s (arguably tragic) character arc?
